Hi Everyone,
Welcome to the very first, very official, one and only, designing games blog from Evolution Vault! I'm Silviu Ploisteanu and I am one of the producers of "Galactic Dream", about which I will discuss in just a bit. Now, my role for our next project would be to oversee the development direction, answer questions and help make sure everyone in the team is working together making the same game. I am here to introduce our company blog, which we hope to update each week with something cool and interesting. So, to kick things off, please allow me to introduce you our first project: "Galactic Dream: Rage of War", a classic real-time strategy game dealing with galactic warfare and alien invasion. The game features massive battles in space, fast creation of armies, simultaneous building tasks to ease the player's life and, finally, a good sense of humor. You can check out the demo at any time - click the Download demo NOW button (top-right corner).
What's this real-time strategy game about? Well, in the 24th century a terrible apocalypse threatens humanity, as a devastating galactic scale event, the Second Big Bang, is set to bring forth a permanent era of darkness. Mankind, struggling to survive in a race against time, ventures deep into space, where unknown predators are waiting. Only the Space Force and one man can lead the last human colony to the depths of hell to safety. Read more...

So, you have a great idea for a game and you think it's something you can do. But there's a problem... Well, actually, many problems: you have no idea how to program things or how to model or to draw as a matter of fact. But you are too damn confident that your idea is good (maybe you've got some designer skills, who knows) and you want to make something out of it. Where do you start? Good question. I will try to give you some answers about game creating from my own personal experience.
Designing games, especially with a small team, can be really, really, stressful, unless you know what you're doing.
Each member or your team must know its role very well, should know what to do next and who to ask for advice. Should you fail to provide a comprehensive and detailed Design Document for them, which should answer at least the majority of questions that can be raised, your team members might not see you as a professional and walk away.
How do you create a Design Document? Here you can find a few examples. Please note that each document is unique and must meet the requirements of its game. Should you want to know more about the game making, Google is your friend. ;)
Once you figure it out the design, it's time to think about bringing more people into the team, which consists of you for now. On GameDev.net you can find programmers, concept artists, 3d modelers, musicians and other people which can help you in game making. Subscribe to their forums and pay attention to new posts or simply browse older ones to search for what you need. Read more...
